2008 "100 Best Companies" by Working Mother Magazine

Arnold & Porter was named one of the "100 Best Companies" by Working Mother magazine. This marks the ninth year Arnold & Porter has received this honor.


2008 "Green Business Award" by Washington Business Journal

Arnold & Porter was the only law firm in the country to be named the winner in "Innovation" by Washington Business Journal for their 2008 Green Business Awards. The Firm was recognized for its multi-pronged strategy to reduce consumption of paper and energy, and the acquisition of carbon "offsets" for business travel.


2008 "Green Leadership Award" by Bisnow On Business

Arnold & Porter was named a winner in the "Legal" category for Bisnow on Business' 2008 Green Leadership Awards.


2009 "Corporate Equality Index" by the Human Rights Campaign

For the third consecutive year Arnold & Porter LLP has achieved a perfect score from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) on its Corporate Equality Index (CEI), which rates businesses on a scale from 0 to 100 percent for their treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender workers. Arnold & Porter was one of only 12 firms nationally to receive a 100% rating, and the firm has maintained its 100% rating since 2006.


2008 Yale Law Women Top 10 Family Friendly Law Firms

Arnold & Porter was named one of the "Top 10 Family Friendly Law Firms" by Yale Law Women. According to YLW, the top ten firms are "leaders in implementing family-friendly policies." The rankings were determined by a survey that included the following categories: access to and use of maternity/paternity leave; emergency and on-site child care; part-time and flex-time work schedules; health and other benefits for domestic partners; ratios of women partners and associates; and billable hours.


2008 "Best Law Firms for Women," Working Mother Magazine

Arnold & Porter was named to the second annual "Best Law Firms for Women" list by Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers LLC. This list honors 50 winning law firms for their commitment to work/life balance and the retention and advancement of female talent.


2008 "100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces" Award by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption ranked Arnold & Porter LLP in its 2008 "100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces" list. Arnold & Porter is one of three ranked companies in Washington, DC. The firm was selected based on its adoption benefits, which includes 12 weeks of paid leave and US$5,000 for financial assistance.


2008 Thomas L. Sager Award

Arnold & Porter's Washington, DC office received the 2008 Thomas L. Sager Award from the Minority Corporate Counsel Association in honor of the firm's recruitment, retention, and promotion of women and minority lawyers. Arnold & Porter is the only law firm in the Mid-Atlantic region to be so honored in 2008.


2008 "50 Best Companies" by Conceive Magazine

Arnold & Porter was named to Conceive magazine's "50 Best Companies" list in its Spring 2008 issue. The firm was one of only seven companies on the list to earn a "best" rating for both fertility and adoption benefits.


2008 "100 Best Companies to Work For" by FORTUNE Magazine

This marks the sixth consecutive year Arnold & Porter has been on the "100 Best Companies to Work For" list by FORTUNE magazine.  Ranked No. 19, Arnold & Porter was the most highly placed law firm of the five firms that were ranked. Arnold & Porter was noted by FORTUNE for its paid maternity leave, profit-sharing plan for employees, and pro bono work. The FORTUNE list is regarded as the most authoritative of its kind, largely because two-thirds of an employer's score is based on a confidential survey of employees. 


2007 "Law Firm of the Year" by the Colorado Lawyers Committee (CLC)

Arnold & Porter was named the 2007 "Law Firm of the Year" by the Colorado Lawyers Committee (CLC) for the second consecutive year at its 29th Annual Awards Celebration in Denver on May 20, 2008. Timothy Macdonald and Susan Cole were part of the team that received the "Individual/Team of the Year" award, which pays tribute to individuals whose commitment and service have strengthened the community. Additionally, Jerome DeHerrera, Stephanie Reedy, George Green, Brittany Kauffman, Thomas Stoever, Jeffrey Lewis and Angela Reyes were nominated for their work on various CLC projects, including Project Homeless Connect, Homeless ID Task Force, Legal Night, and the Taylor Ranch litigation. More than 70 percent of the lawyers in Arnold & Porter's Denver office worked on CLC matters during the past year.


2007 EPA's Green Power Leadership Club

Arnold & Porter was the only law firm in Washington, D.C. awarded with membership to the EPA's Green Power Leadership Club for 2007. This club is an elite group of companies from the EPA's Green Power Partnership. The more than 850 organizations in the Green Power Partnership are responsible for buying green power, which helps support the development of new renewable generation capacity nationwide while also helping to protect the environment. The members of the Leadership Club have purchased ten times the minimum requirements for the Green Power Partnership.


John Pickering Pro Bono Award 2007

Arnold & Porter LLP was the recipient of the John Pickering Pro Bono Award presented at the 2007 Pro Bono Institute Gala in New York City on November 6, 2007. The firm received this special honor for its achievements in the field of public service law. Chairman Tom Milch accepted the award on the Firm's behalf paying tribute to Arnold & Porter's key pro bono lawyers of today and yesterday. The award was named for John Pickering, a founder of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering, and considered one of the greatest advocates of pro bono over the past fifty years.


Michael Gerrard Receives 2007 Advocate Award

The Environmental Advocates of New York presented Michael Gerrard with the 2007 Advocate Award at a dinner on November 13, 2007. Mr. Gerrard was honored for his pro bono efforts, leadership in the private bar, and prolific legal scholarship. Mr. Gerrard is head of the firm's New York office and a partner in the Environmental group.


2007 "Great Places to Work" by Washingtonian magazine

Arnold & Porter was named to the 2007 "Great Places to Work" list by Washingtonian magazine in its November 2007 issue. Arnold & Porter was one of six law firms on the list. Washingtonian magazine wrote, "If there is a firm with a heart, Arnold & Porter is the one. It provides long-term nursing care to retired employees, has a generous health plan, and was DC's first law firm to offer full-time on-site childcare." The firm was also noted for its commitment to pro bono work, adoption leave policy, and career-development program.

2007 Empire State Counsel Honorees

Eleven Arnold & Porter lawyers were recognized by the New York State Bar Association Journal, in its February 2007 edition, as Empire State Counsel Honorees.  These New York bar members have rendered at least 50 hours of pro bono service since the Empire State Counsel program began seven months ago.  Arnold & Porter was recognized as one of only eight law firms in New York with 10 or more attorneys qualifying as Empire State Counsel.

Pro Bono Service Award by World Organization for Human Rights USA

Arnold & Porter was singled out for its comprehensive pro bono initiatives involving the fight against the use of “secret evidence” to justify the imprisonment and torture of US citizens abroad.


2007 "Great Place to Work" Award by Great Place to Work Institute

Arnold & Porter is one of five organizations in the country to receive this honor and the only law firm. The firm was singled out for its inclusive and comprehensive diversity initiatives. The Great Place to Work Institute also implements the survey for FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list.

This marks the fifth consecutive year Arnold & Porter has been on the “100 Best Companies to Work For” list by FORTUNE magazine.  Ranked No. 26, Arnold & Porter is one of only five law firms in the country to make the list in 2007. The FORTUNE list is regarded as the most authoritative of its kind, largely because two-thirds of an employer's score is based on a confidential survey of employees.  The firm also ranked fifth out of 90 for "Best Compensation for Salaried Employees" and eighth out of 25 for "Best Small-Sized Company," and was highlighted in the additional categories of "Unusual Perks," "Most Women" and "Most Diverse."

Arnold & Porter was named one of the "100 Best Companies" by Working Mother magazine. This marks the seventh year Arnold & Porter has received this honor.


2006 "Best Companies for Working Families" Award

Arnold & Porter received the "Best Companies for Working Families" Award by Colorado Parent magazine.  The firm is described as "having its priorities in order when it comes to supporting a balance between work and family responsibilities." 


2006 "Law Firm of the Year" by the Colorado Lawyers Committee (CLC)

Arnold & Porter was named the 2006 "Law Firm of the Year" by the Colorado Lawyers Committee (CLC)  at its 28th Annual Awards Celebration in Denver on May 22, 2007. Timothy Macdonald and David Gillilan received the "Community Contribution Award," which pays tribute to individuals whose commitment and service have strengthened the community. Additionally, Mr. Macdonald and James Scarboro were both nominated for the "Individual of the Year" award for their work on various CLC projects, including Project Homeless Connect, the Homeless ID Task Force, the Sentencing Reform Task Force, and the Colorado Innocence Project. More than 70 percent of the lawyers in Arnold & Porter's Denver office worked on CLC matters during the past year.

In recognition of Arnold & Porter’s outstanding pro bono program, The American Bar Association honored the firm with its 2004 Pro Bono Publico Award. The firm, along with four individual lawyers nationwide, was recognized by ABA President Dennis W. Archer during their annual meeting in Atlanta at the Georgia World Conference Center.
