Arnold & Porter LLP's appellate experience encompasses a broad spectrum of issues under federal and state law, including administrative, antitrust, banking, bankruptcy, constitutional law, corporate and securities, criminal law, employment, environmental, Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), healthcare, intellectual property, national security, preemption, product liability, and telecommunications.

In 2010, Arnold & Porter was named to The National Law Journal's "Appellate Hot List," which profiles firms "that represent the best in the practice of appellate law." Our Appellate and Supreme Court practice was recognized as among those "that have amassed precedent-setting victories in the US Supreme Court, the circuit courts of appeal and state appellate courts and that have demonstrated impressive track records over time."

The practice is led by a veteran of the Solicitor General's Office who has prevailed in 27 of the 28 cases she argued before the Supreme Court and was recognized by Chambers USA 2010 in the area of "Appellate Law: Leading Former Government Officials" acknowledging her "great presence before the court." Our lawyers include over 150 former law clerks, including eight former Supreme Court clerks, over 70 former clerks from the US courts of appeals, and former clerks from specialized courts such as the Court of Federal Claims, the United States Tax Court, and the European Court of Justice.

A key aspect to the firm's success has been the coupling of our nationally recognized experience in numerous global industries and areas of substantive law-antitrust, banking, product liability, among others-with lawyers experienced in appellate advocacy. And our practice involves not just appellate proceedings, but strategic counseling long before a case is on appeal. In all our cases, and in advising clients before litigation, we focus on identifying, developing, and preserving potentially dispositive legal issues. Because the firm often is engaged as national counsel for clients facing multiple related lawsuits across the country, planning for appellate review and developing a coordinated appellate strategy is a regular and recurring aspect of our representation.

The firm maintains an impressive track record, which includes handling high-profile Supreme Court cases that are taught in the nation's law schools as well as several recent ground-breaking appeals involving issues of vital interest to our clients.
